Festivals are very special to Filipinos especially
to Ilocanos. It is not only celebrated for fun but it’s also and always be
celebrated because of its religious purposes. This article will talk about one
of the most prestigious festival in Ilocos Sur.
Kannawidan Ylocos Festival’s feature for today is
the old and new Ilocano culture. The whole Ilocos Sur celebrates the said
festival for being a separate province and for being a treasure chest of
traditions and culture. This is celebrated in 3 weeks from the 29th
day of January to the 17th day of February. Workers of the government from
local and national offices, public officials and members of non-government-organizations
are united in the opening of the said festival last 27th day of
January, year 2018 at Kannawidan grounds in Barangay Tamag. Tadek, an
indigenous ritual, is performed by the National Winner which rose the name of
Ilocos Sur, the 100 students and teachers of San Emilio National High School.
Today, the night outs of the different actors and actresses that perform in the
Kannawidan stage and the rides are enjoyed by everyone who visits Vigan City.
This Kannawidan Festival really mirrors the former
culture of Ilocos. As Governor Ryan Singson always said, “Sure, Ilocos Sur!”.
