Twenty-eighth day of May to twelfth day of June is the exact date when Filipinos claimed their independence. Why do we celebrate the so-called Independence Day?
The Independence Day commemorates the Filipinos' intrinsic right to freedom and independence from the colonization of Spaniards to our land. It is during this day that the entire country remembers the endeavor, bravery and sacrifices of our aristocratic ancestors. It is a special day of remembering the revolutions and fights of our heroes which made the way to the rebirth of our nation. Their bravery and determination to fight for our land is a feat that Filipinos can be proud of for a lifetime. Their intensity to fight for their own trepidation is a move we will forever remember and be thankful of. We celebrate this day for it brings honor for our heroes who deprived for our country and who spent their blood just to claim our territory's independence and just to end the injustices of Spaniards such as raping women, maltreatment of our fellowmen, mutilation and gruesome death punishment. We, Filipinos took the independence day for granted. We almost forget the endurance of our countrymen. When we lose our sovereignty, we also lose all our rights.
Independence Day is celebrated to remember every sacrifices, every blood that has dropped. So, let us not forget that the heroes of this nation have suffered everything under the hands of a cruel foreign ruler. We owe our freedom to express ourselves today without fear to our countrymen who have fought to see independence and to make our land free.
