When the month of July enters, there comes the Nutrition Month Celebration. Year 2018's Nutrition Month Theme is "Ugaliing Magtanim, Sapat na Nutrisyon ang Anihin". Why do we need to make planting nutritious food a habit? What do we need to do to yield proper nutrition? Have you ever asked yourselves that questions? Are you not being conscious of your nutrition?

Nutrition is the supply of food required by organisms and cells to stay alive. Your food choices affect your health. It affects how you feel today, tomorrow, and in the future so it is important to be aware of it. Good nutrition is an important part of having a healthy lifestyle. Diet can help you to reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk of chronic diseases (like heart disease and cancer), and promote your overall health. On the other side, eating nutritious food can help on living a healthy lifestyle. We can plant fruits and vegetables in our backyard to fill up its spaces instead of putting all the household garbages in it and burning those wastes. Vegetable gardening is the main objective of the Nutrition Month 2018's theme.

Proper nutrition matters everything so as early as now, we need to aim and soar for it. Let's yield proper nutrition!

Letter to the President

July 1,2018
Brgy. Raois, Vigan City
Province of Ilocos Sur

President Rodrigo Duterte
Office of the President
MalacaƱang Palace

Mr. President:
Greetings and peace to our Lord!

It will be my honor and pleasure if you will be able to read this, sir. Before anything else, sir, I am Shenel Pauline Ricardos, a grade 10 student of Ilocos Sur National High School from the heritage city of Vigan, province of Ilocos Sur.

I've been living in this country for almost 15 years and a month but then unfortunately, I can see no innovations, developments and improvements on it. Thanks God that He told you to run for the presidential election and eventually, with His goodness, you won. Even though I'm just a 13 year old girl that time, I'm aware of all your agendas and I believe that you can make the Philippines better again that's why I'm very much fortunate when I heard that you won, for it gave me hope because after all the years that had passed through without betterment and is full of corruption, at last the poverty in our country will be reduced. Even though, you just wished and wanted to make our country better, there are these people around you who are destroying your image just because they don't want your way of dispensation. There's an issue of killing innocent people, having a lot of mistresses. Some says you are helping the foe of the government and even your speaking of bad words is a big deal to them. They used the said issues just to make you down but then you disregard everything that they've said about you. I laughed hard when you announced in public that if you're going to speak bad word, you are going to donate in the charity. I like your champaign for "No To Drugs", sir because this is the way on how the drug users and the drug pushers will change their lives. Sad to say that lives of other innocent people are taken away because of this champaign. Is it really necessary to kill people just to make a change in our country and just to make it better, sir? Cause if you can see, we don't know who's innocent or not.

I, as a student, give the whole support on you, sir. I support every agendas and steps of yours to attain the peace and order of our country that every individual wished for.

Thank you sir for your kind consideration. Hoping for your next steps.

-SHENEL PAULINE RICARDOS

A Deepen Sense of Independence

Twenty-eighth day of May to twelfth day of June is the exact date when Filipinos claimed their independence. Why do we celebrate the so-called Independence Day?

The Independence Day commemorates the Filipinos' intrinsic right to freedom and independence from the colonization of Spaniards to our land. It is during this day that the entire country remembers the endeavor, bravery and sacrifices of our aristocratic ancestors. It is a special day of remembering the revolutions and fights of our heroes which made the way to the rebirth of our nation. Their bravery and determination to fight for our land is a feat that Filipinos can be proud of for a lifetime. Their intensity to fight for their own trepidation is a move we will forever remember and be thankful of. We celebrate this day for it brings honor for our heroes who deprived for our country and who spent their blood just to claim our territory's independence and just to end the injustices of Spaniards such as raping women, maltreatment of our fellowmen, mutilation and gruesome death punishment. We, Filipinos took the independence day for granted. We almost forget the endurance of our countrymen. When we lose our sovereignty, we also lose all our rights.

Independence Day is celebrated to remember every sacrifices, every blood that has dropped. So, let us not forget that the heroes of this nation have suffered everything under the hands of a cruel foreign ruler. We owe our freedom to express ourselves today without fear to our countrymen who have fought to see independence and to make our land free.
